If you have never camped at a KOA, you are in for a real treat. We recently went Camping at Mt. Rushmore KOA and it was BEAUTIFUL. It’s nestled right in the heart of the Black Hills and is close to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer Park. You will definitely want to visit during their Fun Zone times which is Memorial Day – Labor Day. This KOA is open May 1 – October 1.
What to Do:
Activities include two heated pools, two spas, waterslide, splash pad, Jumping Pillow and mini golf. Free Wi-Fi, bike rentals, golf cart/ATV rentals, guided horseback rides, gold panning, paddle boats and chuckwagon dinners are available as well. So as you can see there is something for the whole family to enjoy. The bike rentals seem to be a BIG HIT with the kids on this trip. Visit their website!
You can also have breakfast at the pancake tent, lunch at the snack bar and dinner at the on site restaurant.
Accommodations:
When you think of camping at Mt Rushmore KOA, you probably think of roughing it. Actually, Mt Rushmore KOA has 3 different options. You can of course camp by tent or RV but they also have cabins available for rent. We were lucky enough to be able to stay a couple of nights in their executive cabins while we were there and it was beautiful. I can tell you from experience that RVING itself was a lot more expensive than I thought and the cabins were gorgeous!
We stopped at one of our favorite stores Aldi on the way and stocked up on camping food so that we could save on meals instead of trying to eat out. We got fresh veggies, meat and even stuff to make s’mores. You can check out our 25 Easy RV Meals post. If you forget any supplies, don’t worry the KOA has a small general store where you can pick up wood and other things to start a fire. They even have a place to do your laundry, which allows you to pack less.
The view from the cabins were AMAZING! Here are a couple of shots I got including the one at the top of this page of me on the rock.
RV & Pop Up Camping Information:
Mt Rushmore KOA offers beautifully landscaped sites with patio furniture, gas grill, and swing. Built especially for big rigs with all the upgrades. There is a limited number of available premium spots so make sure you reserve your spot. When you click that link it will give you a list of all the different types of spots they have available. I love that this KOA is pet friendly! The maximum pull weight is 75lbs.
How I Earn Free Camping Gear:
Your’re probably thinking yeah right, there is no way I can earn free camping gear. That’s ok I was skeptic too, til my mom was like no this works! I mean who is going to tell mom she is wrong? So While you’re looking at Oklahoma Waterfalls check this out too.
So basically all you need to do is download the Fetch Rewards app and enter the code: EF9PC and scan any grocery, hardware store, pet store or gas receipt within 7 days and you will get a bonus of 2,000 points. Grocery receipts can be up to 14 days old. You will get points for every receipt you scan and bonus points for certain brands. Then you can redeem those points for FREE gift cards like Amazon, Walmart, Cabelas and many more! As you can see I have enough points in my account right now to redeem for a FREE $50 gift card!
