This family-run outfitter has been leading rides just outside the South Entrance of the Yosemite National Park for decades. Their well-trained horses and knowledgeable guides make it an ideal experience for both beginners and seasoned riders.
Trail Ride Options
Yosemite Trails offers a variety of rides, each with its own breathtaking views and historic significance:
- 1-Hour Trail Ride: Great for first-timers or families with younger children. This ride takes you through serene forest trails and introduces you to the basics of horseback riding.
- 2-Hour Trail Ride: This was the ride we chose, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We rode through the towering pines, crossed creeks on horseback, and learned about the region’s history and wildlife from our friendly guide. The pace is relaxed, allowing plenty of time to take in the beauty of the Sierra National Forest.
- Grizzly Giant Ride: A bucket-list experience. This exclusive trail takes you deep into the forest to see Grizzly Giant, one of the largest and oldest giant sequoias in the world. The sense of awe when approaching this massive tree on horseback is hard to describe—you just have to experience it for yourself.
What to Know Before You Go
- Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season (summer and early fall). Visit YosemiteTrails.com to book.
- Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes—you’ll be much more comfortable in the saddle.
- Bring sunscreen and a hat with a strap. Helmets are available and recommended for safety.
- Riders must be at least 7 years old for the trail rides, and weight limits do apply for the safety of the horses.
- Be sure to arrive early to check in and get fitted for your ride.
- There’s no need for prior riding experience—the guides do an excellent job of matching you with the right horse and making sure you’re comfortable.
