SkyScanner  is a website that will calculate air fare costs for you, whether its month to month or when to purchase your actual ticket.  One rule of thumb is to buy in-country flight tickets 2-3 weeks before your trip.  Also purchase tickets on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and opt for early morning flights as these are cheaper.

3. Compare prices between Airports:

We live in the Oklahoma City metro area.  Although we have a world airport, it’s about 2.5-3 hours drive to the much larger DFW airport.  Sometimes airfare going out of DFW is hundreds less than flying out of my closest airport! So if you live within driving distance of a second airport, be sure to compare airfare from each departure location.

4. Check rates on the Airline Websites:

SouthwestJetBlue, and Allegiant are a few Airlines which do not work with the larger third party travel websites. So in order not to miss out on any potential deals, do your research and check these websites directly before you book.  Spirit Airlines also offers low cost rates.
