If you’re feeling a little adventurous, you should stay at the Château Avalon Hotel and spa in Kansas City. The Château Avalon features 61 guest rooms with 23 different concepts suites blending the charm of a bed and breakfast with the amenities found in high-end resorts themed rooms include mine rain forest Tahitian treehouse Monte Christo and more.
When you book a reservation you can choose what room you would like to have depending on what is available at the time of your booking. Upon our arrival, our rooms were chosen for us and it was a surprise. I ended up with the Pirates Cove themed room which was totally fun.
My room included a huge mural on the wall of a pirate ship, a large bathtub, skull and crossbones decor and a nice size bed. All it was missing was Johnny Depp lol.
Hungry? Kansas City is full of yummy food but you have to check out 1889 Pizza. They allow their guests to experience true Neapolitan pizza.
Jason and Kelli Kolich are husband and wife owners that know people crave a different type of pizza – fresh, handmade Neapolitan pie. Pizza Napoletana has been inspiring people for more than a century.
It’s time to get your girlfriends together because they have a one of a kind unique event where you can learn to make your own pizza together.
We all gathered around the table and learned how to create the perfect crust with our hands. It was a lot of fun learning to toss the dough. I might have had a little too much fun with the flour!
We then started with a classic margarita pizza with all fresh ingredients. We literally pulled the basil off of the stems. Then we went behind the counter to add whatever ingredients we wanted.
Once we had finished dressing our pizza we got to literally put it in a wood fire pizza oven and watch it cook. It was so delicious. By the way their salad is amazing too!
If you’re looking for a fun and an unusual activity for your girlfriends getaway in Kansas City, you need to check out Voler – Thieves of Fight Ariel. At Voler you can learn conditioning and stretching techniques that will help to improve overall stamina and strength and balance.
Volar will have you dancing on air in no time using what I call their magical silks. Think Cirque du Soleil. I know what you’re thinking, but please don’t be discouraged by thinking there’s no way I can do this, YOU CAN!
Their workshops are designed with you in mind. You can learn this popular and beautiful area form like dancing on air and progress at your own pace and comfort level while learning. I was actually shocked at what my body could handle and the poses that I could actually do. But don’t be fooled this isn’t just fun it’s real exercise and your body is going to feel it the next day.
If you’re into History check out Strawberry Hill Museum. It was a victorian home that became an orphanage that was in existence for 69 years.
You will be able to take a tour of the home and if you love tea, you will have to visit their tea room. The Tea Room is open the first Saturday and Sunday of every month from March through September.
The menu is comprised of a cultural variety of delicious, authentic desserts with tea or coffee. $6.50 per person for a homemade dessert and a cup of hot tea. It’s a great relaxing day, sipping tea with your girlfriends.
While you are visiting Kansas City you should definitely take a side trip to Bonner Springs to visit the Moon Marble Factory. Here you can watch a demonstration on how marbles are made and then be able to take home your own marbles as well. The store is filled with all kinds of vintage toys and you can grab a tube of marbles to take home for only five dollars.
Linda and Bruce the owners of moon marble did a lot of custom woodworking, making all kinds of fun game boards, when they realized they needed marbles to use as game pieces. Bruce really wanted the kind of marbles that he played with as a child but could not find what he wanted. So he bought 85,000 marbles and then realize hey I need to open a store. OH BOY!
I never realized how much work or time it took into making a marble and as I watched Bruce, you could tell that he loved coming up with new creations. They ended up coming up with a name for the store after a childhood memory of Bruce, where a group of kids share their marbles with him so that he would have some to play with. As you can see in the photo above , Bruce is a HOOT!
One of his favorite marbles was a white marble that was called the Mooney marble. He didn’t want to call the store Mooney but had the idea while he was driving one day of naming it the moon marble company.
Before hitting Moon Marble stop by Third Space Coffee for Breakfast! This coffee shop has a warm and inviting rustic feel to it.
The owners Bill and Amy say that the idea is that most people live their lives in three spaces: home, work, and one additional space.
That third space is generally a leisure or common space such as a coffee shop, bar, community center or anywhere people gather to hang out and build relationships. It plays a large part in the health and vitality of the local culture. We want Third Space Coffee to be the third space for Bonner Springs specifically, and anyone from the greater KC community wanting to connect.
If you’re the adventurous type, while you’re in Bonner Springs you could take your girlfriends out for zip lining at Zip KC. While we were there, I did nine zip lines and at the end we had to do sort of a free fall job. Now I’m a little freaky when it comes to heights but I love zip lining. However, I really had to face my fears on that last free fall.
I let everyone go first. As I looked down, I got really nervous and the guides kept encouraging me telling me you can do it, you can do it. As well as everybody who had already jumped on the ground. After mustering up enough courage I ended up letting go and faced my fears. And it actually wasn’t as bad as I thought, I just wished I would have gotten some photos of me doing it because if there’s no photos it didn’t happen right? Make sure you where closed toed shoes.
The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame is a great place to visit! Come out and explore the historical exhibits and National Agricultural Hall of Fame. Learn about agriculture – past, present and future – on our tours and at our special events.
Their grounds are a beautiful venue for weddings, and our facilities provide lots of options for meetings, corporate events, reunions, campouts or other special events. I am obsessed with anything rustic and farmhouse so I loved this place.
While you are there be sure and take a ride on the Union Pacific Train. We had a blast riding around the property with wind blowing in our hair!
We had so much fun that I think we did 2 or 3 rounds. At one point you go through a tunnel and looks can be deceiving because I thought we were too tall to go through, but sure enough, we had plenty of room to spare.
If you love to shop, downtown Leavenworth Is full of quaint little boutique shops. From rustic decor to handmade jewelry , olive oil tasting , handmade candles and more.
Make sure you stop by Candle Queen and take your photo by the adorable murals outside of the building.
She makes all her for candles by hand and if you’re a history buff she has part of the underground railroad located underneath her store in which she does tours throughout the year for.
If you’re looking for the perfect spot to stay in Leavenworth Kansas you should check out this place called TownePlace suites. It just opened in 2018 and is part of the Marriott properties.
As I walked into the room I was pleasantly surprised to see a microwave and a refrigerator and even the dishwasher. They also offer a Keurig coffee maker with coffee and tea.
If you’re a big Netflix watcher you’ll be pleasantly surprised that there is a smart TV in the room where you can log into your Netflix account and watch all your favorite shows. They also offer free wifi and free breakfast.
It’s truly your home away from home great for a long extended stays or even for military.
Looking for a fun group activity? You should definitely plan to visit Board and Brush. I can tell you I am not an artistic person and I never really enjoyed those paint and wine activities but this place was totally different.
Normally when I’ve been invited to these types of places, my anxiety is through the roof. I never enjoyed what I made because I don’t feel like I’m artistic and I end up throwing my painting in the trash.
The owners Doug and Kathy were an absolute joy. They started us off with a nice breakfast of bagels and fresh fruit and told us a little bit about the business and how they got started. Board and brush is actually a franchise and they have Stores in over 38 states.
We picked out what we wanted to do ahead of time and they had everything ready for us. They offer different classes with different price points, but what we did was considered a micro class. Never in my life have I had so much fun doing a craft. It was super simple and I absolutely loved what I created so much that I plan on hanging it in my office.
This activity was fairly simple and one that actually brought out my creative side. After we distressed our boards it was time to choose what style of painting we wanted to do. I chose to do dry brushing as I wanted a more rustic farmhouse look.
Once the dry brushing was complete and we let our boards dry, it was time to do some stenciling with paint. I was so pleased with the way that it turned out and I’m going to hang this in my office as a reminder of the goal I made myself this year
Make sure you stop by First Taste Olive Oils and Vinegars and More. Sensory Certified Olive Oil Expert, Missie Darnley, will take you through the steps of tasting and selecting Extra Virgin Olive Oils.
She will show you what to look for when buying olive oils and how you need to be careful about buying rancid olive oils off the shelf. We were lucky enough to have lunch while we were which was a special treat as they don’t normally serve food. Let me tell you Mrs Darnley is an excellent cook!
I was excited about the travel size olive oils and vinegars they have to purchase for take home.
And let’s not forget a Spa day! We topped off our trip with a mani and pedi at Bella Vita Salon & Day Spa. They are a full service salon and some of us even opted for an extra massage! Make sure you check out the cute t-shirts they offer as well.
Honestly there is so much to do is Kansas City that this is just a taste of what they have to offer.
Check out some of our other Girlfriend’s Getaways.
When most people think of Florida they think of taking their kids to Disney World or some other busy tourist attraction but if you are looking for a more relaxing trip for you and your family, let me tell you a little bit about Navarre, Florida. Navarre is located in Santa Rosa County with a population of around 42,200 people. It’s about 5 miles east of Pensacola and about 15 miles west of Fort Walton Beach. Think white sandy beaches and clear emerald blue waters. It’s known for it’s untarnished natural beauty.
