When we were looking for a place to go for Spring Break, we wanted to find a place that had beaches. We have some friends that have been to Destin, Florida and they always talk about how much fun it was. So Destin it was. It had everything we were looking for in a Spring Break destination: beaches, great food and plenty of stuff to do to keep everyone happy!
We decided to save some money and drive. Kia was nice enough to give us a Kia Sedona to drive down to Florida. From our front door to the condo was 14 1/2 hours. That’s a long time to be in a vehicle with your spouse and 3 kids. The Kia Sedona is extremely spacious and it also has electrical plugs in the middle and in the back of the vehicle. This was a life saver because each kid could plug in their electronics (computers, DVD players, handheld gaming devices, etc…). This made the drive extremely nice for me and Melissa! Plus the Sedona also has heated and cooled front seats, front and rear controlled A/C so everyone can ride in comfort.
Southern Vacation Rentals: Breakers East
Thanks to Southern Vacation Rentals we were able to stay in Breakers East. It is a beautiful 2 bed/2 bath condo that also has a pull out couch so it could sleep 6 comfortably and up to 8 easily. Breakers East has all the comforts of home. It has a full kitchen, complete with pots pans and utensils so you can cook your own meals. It also has a washer and dryer so you don’t have to worry about over packing. Every room has cable so the kids won’t complain about not being able to find anything to watch.
Another great thing about Breakers East is the view. It looks out over the beach. There is huge balcony where you can sit outside and drink some coffee and enjoy the sounds of the ocean. If swimming in the ocean isn’t for you then you are in luck, Breakers East also has a swimming pool. So no excuse for not having fun. Speaking of fun, Breakers east also has a box full of beach and pool toys that you can use. They just want you get the most out your vacation.
Swoop Fishing Charters:
We have always wanted to go deep sea fishing. So this Spring Break we decided that this had to be on the list of things to do. Thanks to Swoops Fishing Charters At HarborWalk Village we were able to make that happen! They provide all the fishing gear and bait. All you have to do is bring your own lunch. They also recommend bringing rain gear, a poncho and a hat is fine. I’m glad we did too since it rained on the 2nd half of our trip! The great thing about deep sea fishing is that the rain doesn’t keep you from enjoying it.
Everybody caught a fish. As a matter of fact everyone caught multiple fish! We caught a couple of trigger fish and several different variety of snapper. The deck hands made sure that everyone had a great time. When you catch a fish they rush to take it off the hook for you and put it in your basket. You don’t have to worry about having to touch the fish. They are their to make sure you have the best time possible. When the trip is over they even clean your fish! They really helped make the trip memorable. I would recommend taking a small ice chest on the boat with you. The boat doesn’t have any drinks or snacks on it so you will want to carry some with you.
Southern Star Dolphin Cruises:
Also at Harborwalk Village you can sign up for the Southern Star Dolphin Cruise. Owned by a christian family they are the first original dolphin cruise in Destin. On the Southern Star you will enjoy the pristine waters of the world’s most beautiful beaches and experience up close viewing of dolphins, seabirds and a variety of other marine life. The Southern Star is an 80-foot U.S. Coast Guard approved motor vessel that comfortably accommodates up to 149 passengers. We saw quite a few dolphins but it was hard to get a good clear photo and I love that this cruise is a smoke free environment. Small children will have fun getting a turn driving the boat and feeding the birds as well.
Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park:
The Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park is very cool place that has a little bit of everything. When we 1st got there we were just in time to catch the dolphin show. They had 4 dolphins and they basically showed how they work with and train the dolphins. It was not only a cool show it was also very informative.
We also were able to catch the seals and sea lion show. It is pretty impressive how those big animals can move around! Seating for both of those shows in on a 1st come, first serve basis. The dolphin show filled up pretty quick while the seal and sea lions show had plenty of room. But you just need to plan accordingly as you never know what the crowds will be like on the day you go.
They have several exhibits ranging from turtles, penguins, gators, birds and many more. They also have a snack bar just in case you get the munchies or need something cool to drink. This is a pretty cool place and my daughter absolutely loved it!
